Week 1 Buzz

After a one week delay, the 2012 SCK Spring Season finally arrived! Any kickballer will tell you, getting on the field after such a long off-season is an awesome feeling. Stepping onto the field, after what seemed like an eternity, makes us all realize how much we really love this game. And the only thing that amplifies such a good feeling is a good solid win at the end of the night. Unfortunately not all teams we able to enjoy that amplified feeling. Such is life...

Now down to the nitty gritty, in my previous post I mentioned that there was little intel on the new upcoming teams. So for the benefit of all kickball nation I made it a point to check out some of the new teams. Although I didn't get to many, I was able to check out a few.

I caught a couple innings of the Royal Tenennballs v.s. the Free Ballerz. The Tennenballs are by far the league's most spirited team. Even though they aren't looking to compete at a high level of competitive kickball, they are always entertaining to watch. In all fairness they aren't a bad team. There is some talent there. From what I saw they played moderately well. In the other dugout was The Free Ballerz who are a true rookie team. They are a small squad. They suffered from the regular defensive rookie mistakes, but that is expected. Athletic on the offensive side of the ball, but considering the Tennenballs pitching style, it wasn't hard to put a foot on the ball. In the end, the rookies walked away from this one with a 3-2 victory.

Although they aren't rookie teams I caught some of Los Totally Awesomes v.s. Suck My Kick. These two teams are my picks to finish #1 and #2 in the Lone Star Division. Both these teams are on the borderline between cupcake team and legitimate squad. LTA has the advantage because they have the more experienced players and ridiculously upgrading their pitching during the off-season. Just the pitching angle gives LTA a huge advantage, because the Lone Star division has no real pitching. Most teams just feed the ball, which is going to result in a decent amount of offense. Which is a huge contrast from the Mountain Star and Sunrise divisions where each team has atleast 2 , if not 3, "real" pitchers on their squad. LTA will end with the lowest Points Against stat within the Lone Star group which will translate into a 8-0 record. However lets not forget Suck My Kick, this is only their 2nd season of kickball and I really like what Im seeing. There is tons of talent on this team. They just need more experience, but they are slowing putting it together. The pieces are there it's just a matter of putting them in the right places. Very promising team. However LTA won this one and rode away on a rainbow with a 3-1 victory.

Other Honorable Mentions go out to Kickin' N' Screamin' and the Longstrokes. Veteran squad and three-time champs KNS, had the best Power Rating of the night with a +10 : which translates into 11 runs scored and 1 run allowed. Not to mention they did it against an always dangerous New Kicks on the Block team. The Longstrokes had big success with a huge win and a nice +9 Power Rating, which included a shut out of the Party Pandas. The Longstrokes are looking to be very strong this season. Most teams will remember them as last season's rookie team the Chiles Y Chilindrinas. An interesting side note is KNS and the Longstrokes are actually sparring partners for their weekday practices. Looks like its paying off.

And finally the biggest buzz of Week #1. Please know that as soon as I type this I will immediately regret it. The biggest story of the night had to be I'd Hit It's dismantling of Kickball Nation's anointed "All-Star" team Das Boot.

Das Boot is simply a combination of two former power house teams which were the Drunken Monkeyz and the Shockers. Although Kickball Nation has dubbed them an All-Star team, I don't know if that's a totally fair statement. HOWEVER, in good conscience I can't deny that the team is stacked with tons of talent, atleast more than your average team. My definition of an All-Star team would be the best player at their position all on one team. Just watching Das Boot's 1st baseman disproves them as an All-Star team. But I digress, we are focusing on the wrong thing. The most incredible part of last night's match-up, was that Das Boot's loss was the work of one, count em', ONE PLAYER. Im a firm believer in one player does NOT make or break you. However that was until last night, as I witnessed with my own two eyes, I'd Hit It's pitcher Lucas Quimiro single handedly defeat Das Boot. It was not only amazing to watch, but also ridiculously entertaining. Aside from his constant crybaby antics, he is...( Damn you for making me say this) the complete package. The only problem is he is pretty much the entire team. I'd Hit It is going to be in a world of hurt if Lucas ever misses a game. So give credit where credit is due, it was an awesome display of kickball skill!

Well that's all for now....

Happy Kicking and Good Luck

There goes Rich, trying to drum up controversy where there is none. Das Boot is far from an all start team, as eveident by our first base man. Dude can down right suck with the best of them. But like him, we will work on getting better and work on our team chemistry. At this point were more like a party crew, we'll drink any team under the table. So in short....F U RICH!

Lucas is awesome! Also let's not forget his team is very disciplined. Everyone does their role.

Das Boot would have done better but they were missing Calvin.

thanks for the props rich but everyone played good defense. i can't take all the credit for the win but i would like to thank tony and jaime for striking out and making me look good

Awsome start, fun night. Let the drinking continue.

Too bad this is a kickball league and not a drinking league great job I'd hit it

And what would have Calvin done? Nothing because Reid is a better version of him in every aspect if the game and he didn't do anything, result would've been the same

Lucas For kickball president.
Lucas should be the new comissioner.
Lucas. Lucas. Lucas.

Lucas is good, and his team has solid defense. The girls need to get better and their offense needs to improve. Until then KNS or Kixxx are the only true contenders.

Rich rich rich. So wait if a team is only deemed a super team if is loaded at every position at its best, then why was confused kixxx deemed a super team. You once said and still believe that our first baseman and catcher were not good players, and in my opinion first and catcher are as importing as third and pitcher. Now if you're saying that das boots first baseman isn't that good, but their catcher is phenomenal, why are they not a super team? James once said the best pitcher is Tony, and that their third baseman was the best at third, and Reid is arguably the best catcher, and they have arguably the best girl in the league. Now those 4 people come from 3 separate teams. Our people only came from 2 separate teams. So in the end, in my opinion, if we were a super team, then das boot, who has four of the leagues best players, is a super duper team. By the way I don't think James is bad at defense, he just needs to improve on his offense. So who is the best first baseman? Possibly Angel from kixxx? It's hard to say, but I would like some opinions, because this post got me thinking of that

Hugo is the best 1st Baseman!

Das Boot is the best team. Das Boot just took Lucas and his band of misfits lightly. Just watch at the end of the season the Super Team will be holding the trophy high. Hail Das Boot!!

Show the Tenenballs some love! Also, correct your mistake. The Rotal Tenenballs won their first game. You wrote they lost.

Whoa Whoa, I never said your 1st baseman or your catcher weren't any good. Your catcher is actually the 2nd best catcher in this league. Your 1st baseman is a standard 1st baseman, he doesnt drop balls.

Now when it comes to Das Boot, for James to say Tony is the best pitcher - you know that's ridiculous. I mean Tony is a VERY good pitcher, but to say he is the best? Come on now. There is a good amount of pitching talent out there now so its hard to say who is the "best". Their 3rd base is good, but the best? And Yes they have one of the best girls, beside Becky. Overall Becky is probably the best girl. = )

I was really just busting James' balls about being a bad 1st basemen. He is actually good, he doesnt drop much and knows where the balls needs to go once he gets his out. I dont know who is the "best" 1st baseman. It's almost impossible to judge.

The mistake has been caught and will be corrected. Thanks

2nd best catcher on confused kixxx? We didn't have Marcos on confused kixxx.

And about Hugo, prior to the remix season you didn't think he was much, to a point where you were betting that he would drop balls ( which I would've too ha). Any who, not just you but other people have doubted him in the league, so my question was, how were we deemed a super team if we didn't fill those slots properly according to many of the league's opinion?

ItsJustKickball said...

I don't remember making those bets, but I wouldn't put it past me. Also its' not that I "doubt" him, he is just an average player. He won't ever lose you a game and he fits on your team so...yea. I dunno...

Anyways I don't know if there is a standard defintion for a "super team". I think it's all relative to what you think makes a super team.

How bout two board members allowing a game to go to xtra innings then they lose and take it to the board to get it overturned for a draw. Had they won it would have never gone to the board. That some Thursday league action

ItsJustKickball said...

Ha. Before you start alleging anything, you should get your facts straight. The decision to overturn 2 Legits 2 Kicks "win" over LTA was NOT A BOARD DECISION. It was decided by the league commissioner, which is me, Rich. During the regular season, games end after 5 innings regardless of the score. It doesn't matter if there is time left or if the umpire let's the game continue. The simple reason the 1-1 tie was entered as the final score is because that was the score at the end of the 5th inning. Many teams have had a tie game after 5 innings and NONE were allowed to go into extra innings. The result would have been the same had LTA won. In fact, LTA never brought it to my attention. The head umpire for that game informed me, that night, that the game went into extra innings. Which I told him was unacceptable. So the decision was made even before the night ended. I contacted both coaches to confirm what had happened and explained to them why the decision was made to enter the game as a tie.

You can choose to believe whatever you want. But before you start assuming and alleging favoritism and conspiracies, check your facts.

The decision is actually being appealed by 2 Legit's coach to be reviewed at the next board meeting.
